Covers and Conversations

Overview

Covers and Conversations is a 2037 release by Charlie Rivera and the Band (CRATB) reimagining a selection of jazz standards through the band’s contemporary jazz fusion sensibility. The album’s stated purpose was philanthropic: proceeds were directed toward music education initiatives, particularly programs reaching students who otherwise lacked access to instrumental instruction.

Background

The project sat alongside the band’s other 2037 release, Ruido Sagrado / Sacred Noise (the Bad Bunny collaboration), as a quieter companion—the Latin-fusion experimental EP at one end of the year, the standards-reimagination at the other. Where Ruido Sagrado extended the band’s catalog into new collaboration, Covers and Conversations worked with the deepest existing repertoire of jazz history.
